You may notice your back aches more the older you get - as you bend down to pick up the washing, do the gardening, or pick up the shopping basket. Or your neck and back may give you grief from long hours planted at your desk.
Is your pain just part of getting old? Or can something be done about it?
Conditions often treated by a Myotherapist
Whether your pain is recent (acute) or has been around for a while (chronic), common complaints brought to a Myotherapist include:
- Sports related injuries
- Neck and back pain
- Headaches and migraines
- Chronic overuse (RSI)
- Knee, hip, and ankle pain
- Shoulder, elbow and wrist pain
- Tennis and golfer's elbow
- Joint pains
- Numbness and tingling
- General tightness
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
How Myotherapy can help
Myotherapy is similar to Remedial Massage and Sports Massage. It focuses on figuring out what’s not moving - or working well - in your body. Myotherapists have done extra training so may include things like cupping, dry needling and corrective taping.
When we don’t move according to the way our body was designed to move, or put more stress on certain areas, we get injured.
Your Myotherapist can help you by using the right techniques to treat your complaint - along with their intimate knowledge of your body’s muscles, tendons, joints, ligaments, and fascia. And how these all connect and affect different parts of your body.
For example, when your muscles feel tight or harder than usual, your Myotherapist may use massage techniques to work on your muscle knots (called ‘trigger points’). These trigger points release those tight spots, letting blood flow back into the tissues, softening those areas.
When this happens, you’ll feel relief from the pain or uncomfortable feeling of that muscle - and the other areas that muscle is connected to.
FAQs about Myotherapy
I need a sports massage.
Is this the best massage for me? Yes. Our Myotherapists have experience with sport injuries and can set up a pre-training and post-training plan if needed.
What’s the difference between Remedial Massage and Myotherapy?
Myotherapy is similar to Remedial Massage and Sports Massage. Myotherapists have simply undertaken further study on top of their remedial massage qualification.
So you can visit a Remedial Massage Therapist or a Myotherapist with the same complaints. Both our Myotherapist and Remedial Massage therapist use a range of techniques to give you relief from pain and discomfort.
Do I need a referral?
No. But we enjoy working with other practitioners to get the best results. Our Myotherapists will communicate with your personal trainer or other therapists to make sure you are getting a cohesive approach for faster results.
Is it covered by my health fund?
Our Myotherapists are registered with every private health insurance company in Australia including: Medibank Private, BUPA, NIB, Australian Unity, Defence Health and many more. You may like to check with your health insurer to confirm your eligibility for myotherapy rebates. We offer on the spot rebates which means that you only have to pay the gap charge.

About your Myotherapist
All our therapists have formal qualifications along with plenty of practical experience in different clinics helping people with different needs.
You’ll find them really easy to talk to and understand. Importantly, they’ll be there for you in between sessions - checking in on you, answering any worries or questions you may have, and getting insight from other health practitioners in the clinic (with your consent of course).
What’s more, to keep their skills and knowledge updated, they are always learning.
