Does your back hurt?
Do you have trouble walking?
Are your boobs too sore to lie on but you feel sick on your back?

There are lots going on during pregnancy - and after birth. Your uterus grows 500 times bigger than the pre-pregnancy state. Your hormones surge and then suddenly drop. It’s an emotional rollercoaster.

You want to see someone who understands how hard it is to find a comfortable position. Who understands all the minute changes your body is going through.

You aren’t sure what’s safe for pregnancy, what’s right for you - so you’re looking for someone that’s qualified & experienced in the area. Someone who really knows and understands what you’re going through.

During pregnancy and in the postpartum period, you may experience:

  • Sleeping difficulties
  • Back pain
  • Headaches
  • Shoulder tightness
  • Pelvic pain
  • Pelvic floor weakness
  • Coccyx pain
  • Leg pain
  • Rib pain
  • Neck pain
  • Tightness with breathing
  • Wrist pain
  • Abdominal separation
  • Feeling weak
  • Migraines
  • Lightheadedness
  • Wrist & hand pain
  • Tingling & numbness

In fact, up to 84% of pregnant women experience back pain (Homer & Oats 2018). 80-85% of pregnant women experience nausea in the first trimester with half also vomiting (54 Nausea & Vomiting, 2019). Not surprising when you consider all the changes happening in your body.

You might have previously taken medication that you can’t take - or don’t want to take - during pregnancy. Medication such as preventative migraine medication or high doses of painkillers. Perhaps you want a more natural solution - and support.

One study found that only a quarter of pregnant women complaining of low back pain were offered any support (Pierce et al. 2012). We don’t think that’s good enough! You deserve to feel supported and get relief.

Pregnancy chiropractic in Moonee Ponds

Our pregnancy chiropractors are experienced and have advanced training in treating pregnant women - and beyond. On top of pregnancy chiropractic experience, each chiropractor has additional unique training.

Chiropractic techniques tailored for pregnancy

Depending on your comfort and where you are at during pregnancy or recovery, most chiropractic techniques can be altered to suit your changing needs.

Best of all, we have special tables and pregnancy pillows that allow you to lie on your belly safely and comfortably. This is a hit with late-stage pregnant women as well as lactating mums.

Webster Certified

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment. It involves balancing the pelvic bones, muscles, and ligaments to create space for baby to move around.

Pelvic dysfunction may contribute to difficult labor for the mother (i.e., dystocia), caused by inadequate uterine function, pelvic contraction, and baby mal-presentation. Correction of dysfunction may have a positive effect on all of these.

Webster Technique is sometimes erroneously referred to as breech turning technique. We treat the mother, and not the unborn baby.

Pregnancy exercises

Spinning babies exercises
Spinning babies exercises help create space and comfort. These exercises have been designed by a midwife / doula with a chiropractor to help you feel more comfortable during pregnancy, labour and beyond.

Optimal maternal positioning exercises
Optimal Maternal Positioning is another set of gentle exercises designed to create harmony in the body. These exercises help pregnant women feel better during pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

Prenatal yoga and pilates
Yoga and pilates are gentle strength training that can be tailored for pregnant and postpartum women. Both work on the connection with the breath which is great training for birth.

Building a deep core connection can help heal abdominal separation - also called DRAM or diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscle. With a focus on the pelvic floor, perinatal pilates and yoga can help reduce leaking and pain. All while having fun, socialising and feeling good about yourself!

Thompson breastfeeding technique

Posture and alignment can affect more than just comfort. With poor technique, it may be difficult for the baby to latch, contributing to painful or poor feeding. The Thompson Breastfeeding technique involves small positional changes for baby and mum.

Birth & postpartum doula

Doulas are a knowledgeable support person. During pregnancy, a doula can help you prepare a birth plan and discuss options. In labour, doulas may guide you into more comfortable positions, get heat packs and other props, and provide reassurance. They support you and your partner.

In the postpartum period, they can provide advice on breastfeeding, recovery, and settling techniques which can make the ‘witching hours’ easier.

Pregnancy and fertility nutrition

Chiropractors take a holistic view of health. How you think, move and eat all impact your wellbeing. Your nutrition during preconception, pregnancy and recovery are all very important for both you and your baby. Your pregnancy chiropractor can provide you with basic nutrition advice and if required, guide you on appropriate nutritional supplements.

Pregnancy chiropractor FAQs

Are there any side effects?

As with all therapies, there is the possibility. That’s why we spend time speaking with you to understand you and your prior conditions, medications taken, how your pregnancy is going, and more.

Pregnancy chiropractors also use scientific literature – this means that when we prescribe we look at relevant evidence-based clinical research to make the most informed decision. More research is released every day and we keep up to date with this to make sure you get the right advice focused on keeping you and bub safe and healthy.

Can I get a rebate on chiropractic services?

Most private health insurance extra will cover you if you have extras cover.

If you have private health insurance with extras cover for Chiropractic, you may get a rebate for your appointment. We offer instant rebates so you’ll just have the gap to pay.

Other rebates will include:

Do you have female chiropractors?

Yes. All our pregnancy chiropractors are female. They’re caring and empathetic about the unique changes that happen in your body during and after pregnancy.

Do you have pregnancy props for the session?

We have adjustable massage tables that raise and lower along with pregnancy pillows. Also, we’re on the ground floor so no need to worry about walking upstairs. Best of all, we frequently treat swollen ankles, muscle weakness, back and pelvic pain that make stairs a challenge during pregnancy.

Can chiropractors help in preconception care?

Yes. Our pregnancy-trained chiropractors are thrilled to join you on the full motherhood journey.

As holistic therapists, chiropractors provide nutritional, physical, and emotional support. You may be given breathing exercises to help with headaches and stress. You’ll learn the difference between folate and folic acid - and importantly, which should you take? Your pregnancy-trained chiropractor will provide you with a home exercise program too.

Can chiropractic help with abdominal separation?

First, your pregnancy-trained chiropractor will have a feel of your stomach and watch you doing some movements. Depending on how big, deep, and where the separation is will determine if exercises and home care can heal your separation - or whether you may need surgery. Don’t worry - surgery isn’t common but it’s an important step for some women.
